The Size of a BABY!

Surgery was expected to take 3-5 hours. It took just over an hour. ONE HOUR!

The surgeon came out and said that Dale’s spleen was the size of a baby. A BABY!

The baby was delivered and Dale is back in his room and resting comfortably — ok, maybe not exactly comfortably. 

Thanks to all of you that have left messages or comments on the blog. I’ve been reading them to Dale and they really help lift his spirits!

He will be in the hospital for about 1 week and I will keep you all updated on his progress but for now…

    I think you should name it Edgar. Seems like the name an angry spleen baby should have. I’m so glad that it’s out and surgery was faster than expected!
    The week will fly by! They always seem to anyway. Keep a schedule as best you can and remember to both nourish yourselves even if that’s in the schedule too. <3
    Thinking of you both. Counting down the days until you’re back home.

    So glad all went well. Now he knows what it is like to have a BABY! I know he is strong and has a wife that is even stronger and that she will get him back to health. Tell him we are praying for a speedy recovery!!!

    I'm so glad to hear that the surgery is over and Dale is doing well, or at least, as well as can be expected at this point. Leave it to him to go above and beyond with a giant baby size spleen : )!

  I'll try and keep this as short and non technical as possible. This has probably been brewing for years as my platelets (blood component crucial for clotting) have been below normal range but stable for quite a while. Last September (2022), testing prior to a routine outpatient procedure revealed I had an enlarged spleen and my platelets and other important blood values had dropped significantly. My internist immediately referred me to a hematologist/oncologist and I also started consultations with my gastroenterologist (since the spleen is part of his realm).
